Summary
The 3rd Shift Production Supervisor manages the day-to-day production activities of the hourly assembly employees in accordance with company policy, and product quality standards. This individual is expected to utilize labor hours efficiently and minimize non-value-added activity. The supervisor is responsible to identify and resolve production-related problems by working closely with the direct labor workforce and support personnel.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Manage hourly production personnel
- Oversee all operations in department to maximize capacity and efficiency
- Controlling processes for various operations (including safety & quality)
- Promote and enforce safety policies and procedures (both company and regulatory) to decrease the potential for team member injuries
- Maintain a safe and clean work environment by directing and educating team members on best practices
- Ensure product is built to scheduled customer ship dates
- Review unfavorable work order variance and work with Manufacturing Engineering to drive improvement
- Evaluate each stage of the manufacturing process to ensure maximum efficiency
- Support Manufacturing Engineering and Quality Engineering in the training of the hourly operators
- Maintain working relationship with the union by following the terms of the collective bargaining agreement
- Resolve personnel problems by analyzing data; investigating issues; identifying solutions; recommending action
- Communicate and enforce company policies and initiate disciplinary actions as required
- Discipline and coach employees who fall short of job expectations
- Evaluate labor requirements and work with management to assure proper staffing levels
- Investigate and report information to provide realistic schedules to Planning and Customer Service
- Make recommendations for new equipment, process changes, shift suggestions, overtime, etc.
- Monitor and drive the production floor to execute to schedule requirements through ERP schedules or established Pull System
- Resolve material shortages by working with Purchasing and Planning
- Drive Continuous Improvement by implementing visual management tools for metrics and scheduling, organizing areas for smooth flow (5S, layouts, bins, FIFO principles)
Qualifications/Requirements
- Supervisory experience preferred
- Wire and Cable experience preferred
- High School Diploma or equivalent
- 7+ years in a manufacturing environment
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Excellent computer skills. Proficient in Microsoft Office applications
- Experience with Lean manufacturing preferred
- Able to work in a fast-paced environment, multi-task and adapt to changing priorities
- Interact well and coach team members
- Lead by example
- Knowledge of production processes and equipment
- Highly organized
- Strong communication skills (written and verbal)
- Ability to read and interpret manufacturing instructions and engineering drawings
