Senior Quality Engineer

Job Title:             Quality Engineer – Cable Assembly

Location:                            On site - Mesa, AZ

Summary

We are looking for a key contributor to our quality team. This position is instrumental in introducing and assisting manufacturing and quality management in implementing processes improvements using the appropriate tools to drive positive change within the company culture and deliver tangible results, through reduction of scrap, process improvements, or process redesign. This position requires a “hands on” approach and requires the ability to assimilate and analyze quality metrics, develop improvement strategies and, in partnership with the organization, lead the implementation of quality and process improvements.

The cable assembly quality engineer will address quality issues on the production floor. Activities will include: root cause analysis, product containment, first article inspections and any other actions that protects the integrity of our products and services. This position will work closely with assembly operators, electrical testers, manufacturing engineering, and shift supervisors. In addition to problem solving activities for quality, this position will be supporting continuous improvement activities focusing on reducing COPQ. The ideal candidate for this position has experience in electrical engineering, experience with lean & Six Sigma tools and methodologies, and is excited by the idea of identifying and solving problems.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Assesses, evaluates and identifies product quality and process quality improvement opportunities, working closely with the various functions to develop the project plans and provide leadership to the team utilizing the appropriate approach, utilizing quality/CI tools and assisting in training as required 

  • Facilitate root cause analysis and corrective action projects

  • Diagnose failure modes using various methods of detection and analysis

  • Collect Data and generate recommendations for improvement

  • Ability to Analyze data for trends, causal factors and corrective action

  • Ability to provide First Pass Yield and Root Cause data

  • Maintains reports, databases and assists with the management of the quality system, to include quality scorecards and corrective action, customer corrective action requirements, company metrics, the quality manual and project tracker 

  • Implement continuous improvement tools to improve business environment

  • Use Lean Six Sigma methodologies to drive productivity

  • Support customers through CA closure, FAI and RMA support

  • Communicate clearly with manufacturing, program management, the design engineer team as required

  • Evaluate supplier components, subsystems, services for compliance to customer specifications

  • Immediately address internal and supplier quality issues, by notifying proper personnel and taking appropriate actions, including implementing containment action, investigating root cause and bringing quality issues to closure.   

  • Utilizes quality data to develop appropriate in-process inspection and sampling plans and provide guidance to the quality technicians to insure proper inspection and testing on materials and components and maintaining documentation throughout the manufacturing process

  • Creates and leads Internal Audits and Corrective Action activities both internally and with suppliers

    Qualifications/Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree (Mechanical Engineering preferred)

  • 5-7 years’ experience

  • Quality experience: 8D, DOE, RCCA, VSM, etc.

  • Advanced level of knowledge with Microsoft Office Excel (create complex tables and ability to use/modify existing Macros)

  • Six Sigma Certification

  • Knowledge of network analyzers and spectrum analyzers is a plus

  • Familiarity with wire/cable harness manufacturing is a plus

  • Experience managing and mentoring teams within the quality department and collaborating with other departments
